Frequently Asked Questions

Massage helps to relieve stress, improve circulation, and promote relaxation.

Your therapist will ask about any concerns and preferences before beginning the session.

It depends on your needs, but a monthly massage is recommended for general wellness.

You will experience the greatest benefits from your session if you just allow yourself to become quiet and relaxed…which helps your massage therapist focus on providing a great massage!
Definitely communicate with your therapist if you feel any pain or discomfort, if you have any concerns during your massage, or if there is anything your massage therapist can do to make you more comfortable.

Please arrive on time for your appointment. Time for your appointment has been specially arranged for you. If you arrive late your session may be shortened in order to accommodate others whose appointments follow yours. We will do our best to provide you with the services you have booked, but we cannot guarantee the full time if you arrive late. Full payment for your scheduled services will be expected.

If we had to guess, we’d estimate that half our clients leave their underwear on and half remove them. If you feel more comfortable keeping your underwear on, that’s perfectly fine. Your comfort is a priority. We ensure that clients are always properly covered by a sheet or towel, you will never be exposed, and only the specific areas being massaged will be uncovered.

We recommend going to the bathroom before your session, but it can occasionally happen that you’ll need to go during the massage. We want you to be relaxed, so if you’re focusing on holding it in, it’ll interfere with your experience. So do speak up, and we’ll let you know where the bathroom is.

You are encouraged to openly communicate with the massage therapist about your preferences and comfort. If anything needs to be adjusted, or if we are almost (but not quite) getting the right spot, just speak up and let us know right away!

While it’s not strictly required, we generally recommend showering before your massage. Here’s why:

  • Hygiene:  Showering helps remove sweat, dirt, and any strong odors, a more pleasant experience for both you and your therapist.
  • Enhanced Benefits: Clean skin allows for better absorption of massage oils and lotions, maximizing the therapeutic benefits of your massage.
  • Courtesy:  It’s a common courtesy to your therapist to arrive clean and fresh for your appointment.
  • Ultimately, the decision to shower is up to you. If you prefer not to shower beforehand, that’s perfectly fine.

A traditional sauna heats the air around you using a physical source: a wood fire stove, or hot stones. A traditional sauna creates steam and heats up to about 160 and 200 degrees Fahrenheit. An infrared sauna is generally 100 to 160 degrees Fahrenheit. Infrared saunas create heat using infrared lights. The colored lights trigger a response in the cells and organs to promote healing. Different colors promote different benefits! It is very similar to the soothing and warm feeling of sunlight on your skin without the damaging effects of exposure.

  • Minimal Clothing: Many people prefer to wear minimal clothing, like a bathing suit, underwear, or shorts. This allows for maximum skin exposure to the infrared heat.
  • Towel Wrap: You can simply wrap yourself in the towel provided. This offers comfort and coverage while still allowing good exposure to the heat.
  • Loose-fitting Clothing: If you prefer more coverage, opt for loose-fitting clothing made from natural, breathable fabrics like cotton. Avoid synthetic materials that can trap heat and moisture.

Important Considerations:

  • Avoid wearing jewelry or anything metal: These can heat up and become uncomfortable or even burn your skin.
  • Skip lotions or oils: These can interfere with the infrared heat and your body’s ability to sweat.
  • More skin exposure is certainly preferable as it allows better flow of the infrared through.
  • We recommend bringing clothing that is loose fitting and comfortable to put back on after your session.

An infrared sauna is a sauna that emits wavelengths of infrared energy to heat the body’s core temperature. The wave lengths are absorbed by the body to help cells turn over and regenerate quicker. Benefits of an infrared sauna session include: a more restful sleep, relief from joint pain and sore muscles (who doesn’t love a post workout sauna?!), strengthening of the immune system, skin purification, and detoxification of the body to name a few

Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate! Most people do not drink enough water to begin with and now that you are using an infrared sauna and sweating, it is even more important to stay properly hydrated.
Always drink plenty of water before, during and after your sauna session.

  • Shower: A quick rinse beforehand helps remove any lotions, oils, or makeup that could interfere with your sweat and the infrared heat.
  • Remove jewelry and metal: These can heat up and become uncomfortable in the sauna.

After your infrared sauna session:

  • Cool down: Take a few minutes to cool down gradually. Don’t rush into a cold shower immediately.
  • Hydrate again: Replenish fluids lost through sweating by drinking more water or an electrolyte beverage.
  • Shower: A warm shower helps wash away sweat and any toxins released during your session. You can follow with a cool rinse to close your pores.
  • Moisturize: After showering, apply a moisturizer to rehydrate your skin.
  • Relax: Take some time to relax and enjoy the calm feeling that often follows a sauna session.

Additional Tips:

  • Avoid alcohol and caffeine: These substances can dehydrate you.
  • Don’t eat a heavy meal right before: A light snack is fine, but a large meal can make you feel uncomfortable in the sauna.
  • Listen to your body: If you feel overheated or unwell at any point, exit the sauna and rest.

Sweating is the best way to rid the body of toxins (toxic drugs, pollutants, pesticides, and heavy metals), which in turn improves the immune system and overall health. Sweating is also a great way to increase metabolic rate and reduce stress – it’s like a workout without the work – burning 600+ calories per session. The infrared sauna helps you detoxify, improves circulation, lymphatic drainage, and cardiovascular health, reduces pain, increases your metabolic rate to jumpstart weight loss, rejuvenates your skin, and reduces stress and cortisol levels. Repeated exposure to heat from infrared light results in cumulative health benefits.

While electronics are often safe inside the infrared sauna, we advise using caution when using your phone. Cell phones, smart watches, wireless headphones, and other electronics are subject to overheating in the sauna. The higher the room temperature, the more damage will be caused. Infrared saunas achieve heat intensity between 60 and 65°C (113 – 140 F), enough to damage a device.
